		<abstract>Resumo Este trabalho teve como objetivos: a)avaliar a potencialidade das tecnicas de sensoriamento remoto na identificacao e avaliacao de areas preparadas para plantio em tres segmentos (Cuiaba, Nobres e Diamantino)localizados em regioes de expansao da fronteira agricola do Estado de Mato Grosso, no ano safra 85/86 e b)avaliar o incremento na quantidade de area preparada para plantio nestes segmentos no ano safra 85/86, comparando os seus valores aqueles encontrados no ano safra anterior (84/85). Foram utilizadas, para este estudo, imagens TM/LANDSAT no canal 5, na escala 1:250.000, sobre as quais foi feita a delimitacao dos segmentos. Posteriormente foi realizada a identificacao e o calculo da quantidade de area preparada para plantio nos dois anos safras em estudo, para cada segmento. Os resultados mostraram que: a)as tecnicas de sensoriamento remoto que utilizam imagens do TM/LANDSAT foram de grande utilidade na identificacao e avaliacao de areas preparadas para plantio na regiao estudada; b)o incremento de areas com atividades agricolas no ano safra 85/86 em relacao ao anao anterior foi de 17,45, 48,47 e 55,64 nos segmentos Cuiaba, Nobres e Diamantino, respectivamente e c)a imagem do canal 5 referente ao segmento Cuiaba, obtida em 04.10.84, nao forneceu boas condicoes de visualizacao dos alvos agricolas devido provavelmente a ocorrencia de chuvas na regiao nos dias que antecederam a data de aquisicao da imagem; para este caso utilizou-se o canal 3 do TM/LANDSAT. Abstract This study aimed to: a) assess the potential of remote sensing techniques in the areas of identification and evaluation prepared for planting in three segments (Cuiaba, Noble and Diamond) located in expansion of regions of the agricultural frontier of Mato Grosso, crop year 85/86 b) assess the increase in the amount of area prepared for planting in these segments in the 85/86 crop year, comparing their values &#8203;&#8203;those found in the previous crop year (84/85). Were used for this study, TM / Landsat images on channel 5, at 1: 250,000 scale, on which it was made the delimitation of segments. It was later performed the identification and calculation of the amount of area ready for planting crops in the two years under study, for each segment. The results showed that: a) the techniques of remote sensing images using the TM / Landsat have been useful in the identification and evaluation of areas prepared for planting in the studied region; b) the increase of areas with agricultural activities in the crop year 85/86 in relation to the previous dwarf was 17.45, 48.47 and 55.64 in the segments Cuiaba, Noble and Diamond, respectively c) the image of the channel 5 related to Cuiaba segment, obtained on 04/10/84, not provided good conditions of visualization of agricultural targets probably due to the occurrence of rains in the region in the days before the date of image acquisition; in this case we used the channel 3 of the TM / Landsat.</abstract>
